Water Fittings Help@Home

Compression fittings are used in many water application from copper to aluminum and even plastic. The seal is made through the use of a brass or plastic sleeve called a ferrule. First place the nut over the tube then place the sleeve over the tube and insert the tube all the way into the fitting and screw the nut down hand tight. Then using a wrench tighten the nut making sure that the nut is not over tightened. If the fitting fitting leaks just turn the water off and tighten the one turn at a time until the fitting seals.  No teflon tape or pipe joint compound is needed for compression type fittings.

Flare Fittings

Flare fittings are used in many water application with copper steel and aluminum tube. A flare fittings requires a flaring tool (13-2802) this tool forms the end of the tube so that it pushes against the tappered portion of the flare fitting making a seal. No teflon tape or pipe joint compound is needed for flare type fittings.

Pipe Fittings

Pipe Fittings are usedfor water and gas application

Galvanized fittings are for water

Black Pipe fittings are used for gas

Brass pipe fittings are also used for water

Pipe fittings use a tapered thread that requires pipe joint compund or teflon tape.

Pull the teflon tape into the threads to help assure a positive seal.
